FlightStats

Web App and Mobile App for Air Travelers

When I first started at FlightStats, they were quickly transitioning from a small data-focused company to a larger, more consumer-driven one. Nowhere was this more obvious than in its consumer-facing apps, which needed to convey the simplicity and elegance that was FlightStats' focus at the time.

As part of a user-centric UX team, I wanted to create a memorable app with easy-to-understand information. We set off creating wireframes that boiled down the wide spectrum of FS data into the essential information. We wanted the most relevant details to be easily noticed, with additional elements only a press away. Once we had all the organization done, we began to build wireframes, focusing on the most important process--finding a flight.

After the wireframes had been completed, we began work on creating the actual app itself. With the help of a dedicated team of software engineers, I was tasked with communicating the visual display of the app, how it worked, and also provided any graphic assets they would need. The first version of the app was a success, reaching 2 million downloads in less than two years, and brought FlightStats into the consumer-facing app world.
